Ways To Give

Ways To Give

Your generous financial support of Dunwoody UMC is critical to our ability to create new programs, support needed outreach initiatives, offer new Bible studies and gather as a congregation. Thank you for your generosity and support.

There are several ways to make your financial gift to Dunwoody UMC, from online giving to placing a check or cash in the offering plate on Sunday. If you have any questions about how to give, contact Chief Operating Officer Roger Young at roger.young@dunwoodyumc.org.

GIVE NOW

If you prefer, you can make your gift with a cash donation or a personal or business check. Checks should be payable to: Dunwoody United Methodist Church. These gifts can be placed in the offering plate on Sunday, or mailed to the church at:

Dunwoody United Methodist Church. ATTN: Finance Office 1548 Mount Vernon Road Dunwoody, GA 30338

At Dunwoody UMC, we are ALL IN with our Prayers, Presence, Gifts, Service and Witness. We hope you will join us in this effort as we dedicate ourselves to each of these important areas. When we are ALL IN with our commitment, we will be amazed with what God will do -- both through DUMC and through each of us. If you are ALL IN and would like to make your yearly estimate of giving, please click here.

Making a gift to DUMC in memory or honor of someone is a meaningful way to pay tribute to their life while also supporting the work of the church. These one-time gifts can be made online by clicking here. If you prefer to give cash or a check, note the person you are giving in memory or honor of and whether you want the gift to go to a certain fund within the church. These gifts can be placed in the giving envelope found in the pew tray and placed in the offering plate, or they can be mailed to the church at:

Dunwoody United Methodist Church

ATTN: Finance Office

1548 Mount Vernon Road

Dunwoody, GA 30338

Electronic giving is quick, secure and easy. We partner with Pushpay to make your online giving experience simple, whether you are using an electronic transfer or a credit card. You can make a one-time gift, such as a memorial, or you can set up a recurring gift, such as your Annual Campaign giving. With any gift, if you wish, you can designate your gift to a specific area or program of the church.

Please click here to access our Stock Contribution Form.

By donating appreciated stock to Dunwoody UMC, you may be able to receive a tax deduction for the fair market value at the time of the donation without having to pay capital gains tax on the increase in the value of the stock. You should consult your broker and tax advisor for further information and advice on the amount of deduction available in your particular situation.

You may transfer stock to DUMC in one of two ways: surrender an actual stock certificate or transfer stock from your brokerage account.

STOCK CERTIFICATE: Bring the certificate to the church Finance office during normal business hours. We will have you endorse the certificate over to the church and give you copies for your records.

BROKERAGE ACCOUNT: If your stock is in a brokerage account, you can have your broker wire a specified amount of stock to the church's brokerage account at Wells Fargo Securities Bank Brokerage Unit. The following information will be used by your broker to complete the transfer:

Deliver all eligible securities to FIRST CLEARING through DTC #0141. Include DUMC’s First Clearing customer account number: Account #: 3253-8975 Dunwoody United Methodist Church.

To insure timely and correct posting of your donation, please contact Carolyn Trundle in the Church Finance Office at 770-394-0675 or email Carolyn.trundle@dunwoodyumc.org with details of the transfer and how the funds should be applied.

DUMC sells stock donations immediately upon receipt and the proceeds, net of broker's commissions, are then credited to accounts as you have directed. Once the net proceeds of the sale have been received, the church will send an acknowledgement letter stating the type of stock received, the date of receipt and other necessary information. This is your receipt for any tax deductions that may be available.

You should consult your broker and/or tax advisor for information and advice on the amount of deduction available in your particular situation.

DUMC uses Every.org to receive, liquidate, and disburse cryptocurrency gifts to DUMC.  By making the contribution to Every.org the donor specifies that the gift is for DUMC.  Every.org receives the gift, provides the tax-deductible receipt to the donor, deducts a 1% processing fee, and remits the balance to the church.  The church records the gift as “non-deductible” on the donor's record so that they get credit for the gift

WHY CONTRIBUTE GIFTS OTHER THAN CASH?

The tax code is very generous toward this form of giving. Giving the asset directly to the church allows the church to sell the asset, thereby eliminating potential capital gains taxes to the donor. This also results in a larger gift to the church.

WHY GIVE APPRECIATED ASSETS?

Appreciated assets held more than one year, such as publicly-traded stocks, mutual funds, bonds, or cryptocurrency can provide you with additional tax savings. Givers do not realize long-term capital gains when giving these securities. Market value at the time of the gift, rather than your cost basis, may be reported as an itemized deduction. If you donate securities, please call us to tell us when to expect your generous gift.

HOW DOES THE TAX BENEFIT WORK?

Itemized Deduction: The donor is allowed to include 100% of the market value of many of these assets as charitable contributions for tax purposes if held for more than one year.

Because of its tax-exempt status, the church will receive the full market value, less transaction costs, at the time of sale without paying capital gains taxes.

NOTE: Any discussion of the tax implications of gift vehicles should not be considered as tax advice. Consult your personal tax professional for advice on your specific tax situation.

Make a gift using cryptocurrency at: www.every.org/dunwoodyumc.

In some cases, charitable giving can be enhanced using income tax deductions and can be much more effective when it is included as part of year-end tax planning. Recent changes to tax laws may impact this deduction, so be sure to check with your tax advisor. Year-end gifts can be made online or mailed to the Finance Office and must be received in the Finance Office by Dec. 31.

Giving to the DUMC Endowment Fund

The Dunwoody United Methodist Church Endowment Fund was established to identify and develop opportunities for planned giving. Our purpose is to endow and support the future needs of our church's ministry and mission by encouraging our members to remember the Church in their wills, trusts, retirement accounts and life insurance designations. The DUMC Endowment Fund can help you determine which type of gift is the best fit for your charitable giving goals and financial objectives. If you have any questions about giving to the Endowment Fund, contact Chief Operating Officer Roger Young at roger.young@dunwoodyumc.org.

You may include a charitable bequest to DUMC. If you want to leave a bequest to the Dunwoody United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, you must specifically do so in a will or trust. Your will or personal trusts are legal records of your wishes regarding how your assets should be handled at your death. Instructions regarding the dispensation of your assets are called bequests. Charitable bequests are not subject to estate or inheritance taxes, therefore reducing the tax burden of an estate. Charitable bequests may be changed at any time. Your estate will be entitled to a charitable deduction for the full, fair market value of your gift.
A charitable gift annuity is a way for you to receive a guaranteed income for life and an immediate income tax deduction, while at the same time leaving a legacy to the Dunwoody United Methodist Church Endowment Fund. When you transfer assets to a Charitable Gift Annuity, you receive a fixed stream of income for life. After paying the lifetime annuity to you – and your spouse, if you choose – the remaining principal is transferred to the Dunwoody United Methodist Church Endowment Fund.
A charitable remainder trust is a special type of trust that provides for and maintains two sets of beneficiaries. The first set is the income beneficiaries (you and, if married, a spouse). Income beneficiaries receive a set percentage of income for life or for a fixed term not to exceed 20 years from the trust. The second beneficiary would be the Dunwoody United Methodist Church Endowment Fund which would receive the principal of the trust after the income beneficiaries pass away.

Through membership, the John Wesley Legacy Society honors the dedicated group of members and friends who have chosen to include Dunwoody UMC in their estate or planned giving regardless of the amount or nature of the gift. The Society hosts an annual event to honor its members and invite church-wide interest. This event also recognizes members of the John Wesley Legacy Society Advisory Council who have upheld the purposes of the Dunwoody UMC Endowment Fund through leadership and generosity. To join the John Wesley Legacy Society, contact Roger Young at roger.young@dunwoodyumc.org.

Giving life insurance as a gift to DUMC allows even those with modest means to leave a substantial contribution. A gift of life insurance is a deferred gift, which means the proceeds from a commitment made now will be realized in the future. In addition to gifting an existing life insurance policy, a new life insurance policy can be purchased from your life insurance professional naming the DUMC Endowment Fund as owner and beneficiary. The initial premium payment plus subsequent insurance premium payments made by the donors are deductible as charitable contributions. A gift of insurance will not reduce your current stream of income.
A retirement plan is one of the best types of assets to transfer to the DUMC Endowment Fund following death because of the income tax consequence. Most inherited assets are free from income tax. However, an heir will pay income tax on disbursements from a decedent's retirement plan such as a profit sharing plan, Section 401(k) plan or IRA. If you are going to make a charitable bequest, it is usually better to transfer assets subject to income tax to a tax-exempt charity – such as the Dunwoody United Methodist Church Endowment Fund – and to transfer assets not subject to income tax to heirs.
