One of the outstanding ministries of The North Georgia Conference that our church has a long history of supporting is The United Methodist Children’s Home.

Founded in 1871, The United Methodist Children’s Home initially provided orphanage care and higher education assistance. These ministries were entirely financially dependent upon the Methodist Churches in North Georgia.

Over the past 147 years, The Children’s Home has expanded its services to reach more children in need of a safe, loving home. In 1973, while still offering group care, they became one of the first faith-based organizations to be licensed as a foster care agency in Georgia and have served over 6,000 children through their foster care program.

Today in Georgia, there are about 15,000 children in the foster care system who need a safe place to call home. The Children’s Home, through their four regional offices, help to find loving, compassionate and nurturing homes for children of all ages. Since 2010, The Children’s Home foster care program has grown from caring for 18 young people per day to caring for 245 children in 2017. By giving to the Amazing Grace Offering, you partner with The Children’s Home in caring for foster children, youth, and families in Georgia.

Our own Paul Rozeman, a member of Dunwoody UMC, serves as Chair of The Children’s Home Governing Board. Florence Fortenberry, also a member of our church, serves on the Advisory Board of The Children’s Home.

This Sunday, September 16, you will have an opportunity to hear more about The Children’s Home, and you will have an opportunity to continue our church’s long history of support towards this loving, compassionate and transformative ministry for children and families.
