DUMC Clergy Profile: Get to Know Rev. Matt Stone

As a part of our DUMC Clergy Profile Series, we are excited to share more about Matt Stone! Matt joined us in July of 2020. We hope you enjoy getting to know him a little better, and be sure to say hello the next time you see him around DUMC!

DUMC: Where are you from originally, and where do you currently live?

Matt: I’m originally from Beaumont and Tyler, TX (southeast and northeast Texas respectively). We moved here from Texas in June of last year, and we currently live off of Dunwoody Club Dr. in Sandy Springs.

DUMC: Tell us about your family!

Matt: My wife Margaret graduated from SMU with a BA in English, worked as the Director of Habitat for Humanity in Manhattan, KS, the Communications Director at Kingwood UMC in northeast Houston, and launched her own Interior Design business, Margaret Stone Interiors, in Tyler, TX. Our daughter, Charlotte, is in 5th grade and loves playing soccer and horseback riding. Our son, Jackson, is in 4th grade and loves any sport that involves a ball (football and lacrosse in particular).

DUMC: What ministry areas do you currently work with?

Matt: Nursery, Preschool, Children, Youth, Young Adults (Next Generation Ministry)

DUMC: Do you have any favorite/memorable moments or projects you’ve been a part of so far at DUMC?

Matt: I especially enjoyed working with the NextGen team that developed identity and direction for our children and youth ministries. They were a highly capable, deeply faithful team of staff and lay leaders, and I’m incredibly excited to see how God will transform our church in light of that work.

DUMC: What do you like to do for fun?

Matt: I enjoy working out, quail hunting, mountain biking, hiking, driving in the North Georgia mountains and eating all the queso I can find.
