Join us for Foodstock

The Gospel of Luke reminds us that at a point in Jesus’ ministry, a crowd had gathered to hear him preach late into the evening. The disciples began to worry what such a large and hungry group of people would do for dinner, so they said to Jesus, “Send the people away so that they can go and find food for themselves, because we’re in the middle of nowhere.” Jesus responded, “You give them something to eat.” Oftentimes we are great at identifying a need in the world, but how much better when Jesus invites us to be a vessel for God’s provisions that can meet those needs!

Save the date for Foodstock on Saturday, August 10, from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. in the DUMC Gym. Dunwoody UMC, in partnership with Rise Against Hunger, brings together over 1,200 community volunteers to assemble 300,000+ dehydrated meals for children in need across the globe. The result fills a shipping container (20 tons of food), and it is shipped immediately to those in need. Our church, with the help of Simpsonwood UMC and other community groups, have packaged over 2,400,000 meals since 2010. This year, we will surpass two-and-a-half million meals packaged by this congregation and community! Come be a part of this wonderful event, and help reach this year’s goal of 314,064 packaged meals by our community. All ages and abilities are welcome to volunteer.

This year, the Children’s Ministry will have volunteers and staff on hand to help families find age-appropriate and kid-friendly jobs within the service project at the start of the 9:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. time slots. A kid’s corner will be available towards the end of each shift where kids can take a break and re-energize while their parents keep serving.

Volunteers sign up to work in two-hour shifts, 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Register today for one or more shifts at dunwoodyumc.org/foodstock.
