Holy Week 2019

In the life of the Church, next week is Holy Week. It is the most important week of the year. It starts on Sunday with what is known as Passion Sunday. On that day we recall both Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, but also the fact that by Friday, it ended on the cross. As a part of our celebration, our children’s choirs will be processing into the church singing. We will also be looking at the experience of Joseph of Arimathea, who offered his own tomb for Jesus.

Each day during Holy Week, Monday – Friday, we will have a Holy Week Noonday Service. They will begin at 12:05 p.m. in the Sanctuary where we will have a short worship service. From there we will move to the Fellowship Hall where we will enjoy a light lunch together.

On Thursday evening, we will focus our attention on Maundy Thursday. As we remember the Last Supper that Jesus shared with his disciples, we celebrate the sacrament of our Lord’s Supper here among his disciples today. The service will start at 7:00 p.m. Prior to the service at 5:30 p.m. dinner will be served in the Fellowship Hall.

On Friday evening, we will return to the crucifixion of Christ with a Tenebrae Service. Through music and the extinguishing of candles we will recall the fact that Jesus offered up his life for each of us and demonstrated once and for all the love God has for all of us. The service starts at 7:00 p.m.

Next Sunday, April 21, we will celebrate the greatest news the world has ever received… JESUS CHRIST IS ALIVE. We will have four services that morning: the first will be a Contemporary Service and the other three will be Traditional Services. They will be held at 8:00 a.m., 9:10 a.m., 10:15 a.m., and 11:20 a.m. in the Sanctuary.

I hope you will join us for as many of these services as possible. Better yet, invite a friend and join us as together we claim the redemptive power of God’s love.

Blessings,
Dan
