I am excited. On Sunday, April 29, Emmet Cahill performs at DUMC in a benefit concert to provide counseling resources for young people in the Dunwoody area.
Emmet Cahill is an internationally known singer. As a soloist, he has performed at the Gaiety Theatre, the National Concert Hall, Croke Park for crowds of 90,000+, the President of Ireland, and the Mullingar Cathedral. He is also a member of the internationally famous Irish music group Celtic Thunder. Both as a soloist and with Celtic Thunder he has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and Australia. He is an incredibly gifted musician and has offered to join us in our effort to help make a difference in the lives of young people.

I mentioned that this is a benefit concert. Here at DUMC, we have partnered with the Summit Counseling Center for almost two years. In that time, we have seen the rise in requests for counseling rise dramatically. We have seen the rise in requests for counseling among young people rise even more sharply. Through this concert, we hope to reach many young people who have needs that might otherwise go undetected.

A quick review and the statistics speak for themselves.

1 in 5 children (ages 13-18) have a mental health disorder.
11% of youth have a mood disorder.
10% of youth have a behavior or conduct disorder.
8% of youth have an anxiety disorder.
50% of all disorders begin before age 14.
Suicide and opioid use are the #1 and #2 epidemics in our homes, schools, and neighborhoods.
Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death in youth (ages 10-24).
I hope you will make every effort to support this very worthy cause. The concert begins in our Sanctuary at 7:00 p.m. Both our Adult Choir and Youth Choir will be a part of the concert as well. Tickets for the benefit concert are $30 per person.
