CULTURAL CONNECTIONs aCTIVITIES

ESOL Classes

January 15 - April 30, 2025
Learn Conversational English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) on Wednesdays at 5:45 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the Young Adult Suite. Classes are free. Childcare is available.

Seminars

Learn about living in the U.S. and in our community. Topics include dealing with culture shock, parenting, and more.

Events

Socialize and serve with CC friends and families at Lunch Bunch, service projects, and more.

Bible Studies

Join CC friends in exploring how Christianity applies to daily life. Small groups are formed throughout the year based on interest and facilitator availability.

Wednesday Night Supper

Eat dinner, practice English, and meet new friends! Wednesday Night Supper is in Fellowship Hall starting at 5:00 p.m. most Wednesdays. Several CC friends often sit at tables near the stage at 5:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. if you'd like to join us. Order dinner HERE the Monday before you plan to attend.

Sunday Worship

Join CC friends at Sunday worship. DUMC offers a Modern Service at 9:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall and a Traditional Service at 11:15 a.m. in the Sanctuary. Several CC friends often sit in the balcony (on the right side, facing the alter) during the Traditional Service at 11:15 a.m. If you want to let us know you are coming so we can look for you, please email us HERE a few days before the service you plan to attend.

Cultural Connections VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Do you want to help support CC participants and leaders at activities? Click HERE to join CC and indicate your interest in volunteering on the form. We will add you to our volunteer group list. When we have a need for volunteers, we will send a request for help.

Volunteers who are fluent in English provide guidance and support to child English language learners at the church nursery (ages 2-4) or Wednesday Night Kids (ages 5-12) while their parents attend ESOL classes and seminars at the church. CC Buddies must be adults or youth at least 14 years old and 5+ years older than the children they are accompanying.

Volunteers who are fluent in English provide guidance and support to adult English language learners at Wednesday Night Supper, worship services, and other activities.

Volunteers help as needed before, during, or after ESOL classes, seminars, and other CC events. Duties may include helping English language learners sign in/register, create a name card, and get to childcare programs; serving food; and assisting with set-up and clean-up.

Volunteers who are fluent in both English and another language are on-call to translate and interpret as needed.

Volunteers who are fluent in English are needed to lead small group Bible studies or Sunday School classes for English language learners. This can be a short or long-term commitment, depending on interest and facilitator availability.

Volunteers who are fluent in English and have teaching experience may be needed in the future to teach additional ESOL classes as we expand our program.
