Youth Scholarship Program

The Youth Council of DUMC is honored to announce a Youth Scholarship Program. This program will begin with current Senior Youth and continue for years to come.  This program will be based on a point system for youth activities and a mandatory 70% attendance of combined participation for Sunday school, Sunday Night 180, Senior Only gatherings, and Wednesday Night Thrive.  For the graduating Class of 2011, a minimum of 15 points will be required, along with the essay, submitted by April 1, 2011.

The purpose for the scholarship program is to

  • Encourage participation in DUMC youth programs throughout high school,
  • Promote and grow the DUMC youth program by enhancing opportunities for the senior high youth,
  • Give youth a knowledge that the church is assisting in the youth’s future development,
  • Give the youth a sense of accomplishment in earning a Christian based scholarship.

This scholarship is not based on financial need.

For future years, starting as ninth graders, a total of 40 points must be obtained.  For the class of 2011 fifteen of the total points must be obtained within the senior year of high school. Transfer students must earn 10 points their senior year in order to qualify.

Each youth will be responsible to monitor their attendance and activities with Rev. Stephen Streett and the assistant youth ministers.  The points will be kept by the assistant youth ministers on a secured spreadsheet and audited by the Adult Youth Council.

This year’s scholarship funds have been set aside by a private donor.  Future funds will be through private funding and the offering collected at the Youth Sunday Service.  The amount of 2010 scholarships will depend on those who qualify.  It is anticipated that each scholarship will be between $500 and $2,000.00.

DUMC youth members will have preference for the scholarships, however, there are youth who are not members that participate on a weekly basis within the youth program and support the church with their talents who will be considered for scholarships.

The scholarship funds will be deposited directly to the accredited college or university for which the youth will attend.  Special needs youth will have the opportunity for scholarship funds based on the individual’s capabilities and church participation.   These youth must provide documentation of acceptance into a vocational/training school beyond their high school years. The scholarship must be used during the students first year of college

Please contact Rev. Stephen Street, the assistant youth ministers or anyone on the Adult Youth Council if you have questions or concerns.

Blessings –
