United Methodist Women

Who We Are:

An organized local unit of the United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

What We Do:

There are currently 10 UMW Circles at DUMC. We represent age groups from 20-somethings through 90+ years old. Each group meets monthly to engage in fellowship, mission work, Bible study, and fun. We bring in speakers on various subjects, feed the homeless, donate time and materials to community charities, work together on global mission projects, participate in Bible studies, provide support to fellow members who are sick, grieving, or having babies, and much, much more.

How You Can Become Involved:

Check out the descriptions of the Circles listed below. If you see one you think matches your interests, call or email the Chairperson and let her know you would like to visit a meeting.

Social Action Project for Wellspring Living

Dunwoody UMC United Methodist Women joined other UMW circles in the Atlanta Roswell District in collecting craft and art supplies for the district’s 2010 Social Action Project for Wellspring Living.

Wellspring Victory Program, in partnership with other child service organizations, cares for girls (ages 12-17) who have been devastated by forced prostitution. Wellspring Living offers a safe home which includes a therapeutic and educational program for sexual abuse survivors. The supplies donated by UMW will be used in the art therapy program.

Collecting Toiletries for Service Project

One of the many projects of the Family living & Giving Circle is serving lunch several times a year at the Atlanta Urban Ministries Women's Community Kitchen. In addition to providing a delicious hot meal, a gift bag filled with small-sized toiletries is presented to each lady. The Circle members also distribute gently-used tennis shoes for those who need them in winter.

This active UMW circle is composed of women who are experiencing empty-nests, retiring from careers, enjoying grandchildren, caring for aging parents, and supporting women who have already experienced those life changing events. The meetings are held in the church parlor, and sometimes in members' homes on the 2nd Monday of the month at 11:00 a.m. After a business meeting and program, the group enjoys an informal "brown bag" lunch and social time. Working Women’s Network at Their Annual Retreat

The members of Working Women’s Network recently enjoyed Christian fellowship at their annual retreat at Lake Burton. Their mission study Food and Faith was led by Cheryl Dunbar and Tina Philpot, members of the circle.

The Working Women’s Network, a circle of the United Methodist Women, was formed twenty years ago to meet the needs of working women who desired to network together and to meet in the evenings. The group is comprised of women from many different work and home environments who network together for Christian fellowship, meaningful programs, and group projects. There is a strong support system emphasized for all women in the group. The mission project for this group is the support of the Community Action Center. Meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in members’ homes For more information call Mary Sue Howard at 770-394-4059 ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
