All other days, the library is open to its patrons with checking out books done on an honor system. Simply sign the library card in the back of each item and leave card(s) in the box at the check out area. Then stamp with the date due stamp on the date due slip in the back of each item. Books may be returned in the receptacle under the book display window at any time.
The DUMC Library/Media Center has over 7000 volumes of book and non-book items. Items are loaned for a month. An outside depository for returning items is conveniently located in the hallway under the book display window. An integrated collection that allows all non-book items (audiovisuals) to be shelved along with the books, the library also has a “ready reference” section. If you’re searching for something on Paul, for example, you will find cassettes, video, etc. located with the books on Paul. The History Room is located in the front of the library. OTHER INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE LIBRARY ARE:
There are 15 adult volunteer staff assistants and 1 student volunteer. To apply as a prospective staff volunteer, visit the annual Ministry Fair booth or fill out an application available at the Library. All volunteers attend work day sessions plus at least one Sunday morning from 10 to 10:30 a.m. or one Wednesday per month. Currently our student is Andrew Cole. Questions about where to find your books, etc. on Sunday mornings from 10 to 11:30? Ask a staff or student volunteer assistant.
A Quarterly Newsletter shares information on Library Assistants, What’s new in the library and Current events. A recent issue explains the reserved resource books for specific areas, such as Adult resources, Alzheimer’s, CAAR, or Large Print books. Pick up the latest copy today in the library.
Check our book displays for current appropriate subjects and books. Inquire for opportunity to use the book display for your special DUMC interest. For example; our current book display is a Report from the recent National Church and Synagogue Library Assoc. Convention. This is a vital librarians’ association that encourages networking, workshops, etc.
