___________________________________________________________

Today We Are Receiving the Offering for Wesley Homes. This is the North Georgia United Methodist Ministry for Older Adults.

A Note from Wiley to the Congregation I am scheduled for back surgery on May 12. I will  be out of the pulpit and the office for four to six weeks. We have a great staff here at the church and I am very confident that not a beat will be missed in my absence. I would appreciate your prayers as you know all surgery is “major” when it is on you. Visit www.dunwoodyumc.org for updates on Wiley’s recovery.

Our Church Council Meeting on May 19 will open with a Church Conference. The purpose is to elect our church officers for the year of 2008-9 starting September 1, 2008. All members are invited to come to the Conference.

DUMC Member Survey 2008 has closed and was very successful, thanks to the 420+ member households who took time to provide the valuable information needed to guide the church’s strategic plan. A preliminary analysis, available on the church web site, indicates that, as expected, we are a healthy church.

DUMC 101: Introduction to Dunwoody UMC Classes:  Just like college courses with the same title, the Dunwoody UMC 101 classes are an introduction to our church and our United Methodist denomination. Your clergy staff answers your questions about what we do, why we do it, what we believe, and how to get involved. The next series of classes will be today and Sundays, May 18, and 25 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the Wesley Room. Please contact Zack Martin at ext. 179.

We will board the bus at 9:15 a.m. and plan on returning around 4:30 p.m. Check with Ruth Milks at ext. 113 for seat availability. Cancer Support Monthly, members of DUMC and our community who are currently dealing with or have dealt with a cancer diagnosis come together to listen, encourage, and help each other through a challenging time. Please contact Joanie Hardin at 770-394-3714 if you have any questions.

October 18 Is the BIG DAY! Great Day of Service will be experiencing an Extreme Makeover this year. Save the date of October 18 to be involved in some wonderful service projects around our community and within our own church. We’ll have new projects, new times, and new people participating this year. Mark your calendar so you won’t miss out!

DUMC Holiday Festival is still in need of a few more ANGELS to fill vacancies on our steering committee. We are in need of a Publicity chairperson and co-chairs for Attic Treasurers. These are wonderful opportunities to meet more of our DUMC family, and to be a part of raising funds to support the building of our 15th Habitat House in 2009! If you are interested, or have any questions, please contact Tish Elliott (770-392-9094) or Mary Millar (770-396-3096).

Life Can Be Very Challenging for All of Us. If you find that the challenges are overwhelming, leaving you feeling lonely, frustrated or frightened, please call one of the ministers at 770-394-0675 to be referred to a Stephen Minister. They are trained to help you through the difficult times and to be with you on your journey to find God’s constant presence in your life. Your request and conversations will be kept totally confidential.

Thank You to all who had Doug and our family in your prayers as he recently endured and is now recovering from his brain aneurysm. He continues to do very well and we are eternally grateful for your love and support.   Cathy Wright
