Dear rising 6th grade parents,

It's almost time for your son or daughter to join the most awesome youth program in Dunwoody. That's our 180&#176. It's very important that your read this letter and take a look at the below dates.

6th grade students will start attending youth Sunday school on Sunday, August 7th at 9:00am or 10:30am for a welcome breakfast. Confirmation open house for youth and parents is Sunday, August 21st in the youth area at 4:00pm followed by a concert by the 180° Praise Band. 180° Open house for all youth and parents is Sunday, August 21st at 10:30am in the youth area. All sixth grade youth are encouraged to register for Confirmation. Parents may register their child at www.dunwoodyumc.org/180 <http://www.dunwoodyumc.org/180>. You will also find a complete 180° calendar and additional confirmation information on the 180° website.

Confirmation is a wonderful time in a young person's life in which they will learn about the Christian faith, the church, Methodist history, Methodist doctrine, and what means to be a member of Christ's church. We will offer Confirmation at 9:00am and 10:30am in the youth area. As always we are looking for parents who are willing to assist us with the Confirmation program and various 6th grade outings. Please contact Lane Davis at 770-394-0675 ext. 104 if you would be willing to assist us in any way. Youth Choir will begin Sunday, August 21st at 6:00pm for 6th grade.

An overview of Confirmation

We want to stress that Confirmation is the beginning of a faith journey not the end of a process. 6th graders have a very important fall retreat September 16-18 at Look-up Lodge Christian Retreat Center in South Carolina. Each confirmand will be assigned a high school ex-confirmand (ex-con) to meet once or twice a month with the confirmand (September, October, & November). We will have a winter confirmation retreat February 24-26 to Lake Junaluska. Confirmands need to select an adult Friend in Faith (Mentor) to meet with them twice per month Jan.-April. All of this will be covered more at the open house. Confirmation weekend is April 14th and 15th. We will have a banquet and rehearsal Saturday, April 14th at 6:30pm in the gym and youth will be confirmed during worship on Sunday, April 15!

This year we will offer a confirmation class for parents that will meet once a month and will be taught by Lane Davis.

Acolyte Training: All 6th graders should be at the acolyte training. We have our first training on Sunday, August 21st in the Sanctuary from 3:00-3:45pm. A DVD version of the training is available online.
