Donations Needed!

We currently are collecting the following items for our projects. Please bring these items to the donation bin area located outside the nursery. Thank you!

  • Travel size toiletries - shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, lotion, etc
  • Peanut Butter - any size for food packaging at Feed the Hungry
  • Birthday Party items - plates, napkins, balloons, cake mixes, frosting, etc for MUST ministry birthday kits
  • Plastic Grocery Bags for Project Homeless Mats
  • Hand Lotion, Body Spray and Lip Gloss for PADV (Partnership Against Domestic Violence) donations

Off-Site Projects

Be our guest for breakfast and then depart to serve in the Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, and Atlanta community. Join us back at DUMC for lunch from Sandwich Food Truck.

PROJECTS

Home Repair Age 12+.
Make light repairs on homes/agencies for seniors. Agencies served include:

  • DUMC Transitional Housing—HomeStretch
  • Habitat for Humanity—Brush with Kindness*
  • Wellspring Living

*Ending time may go past 1:30.

Yard Work/Landscaping Age 5+.
Work to beautify agencies, parks, schools, or seniors' yards. You can expect to pick up trash, mow lawns, rake leaves, weed and mulch flower beds. Agencies served include:

  • Chestnut Elementary
  • Dunwoody Springs Elementary
  • DUMC Transitional Housing—HomeStretch
  • Habitat for Humanity—Brush with Kindness
  • Hightower Elementary
  • Interfaith Outreach Home
  • Jerusalem House

Hosting a "Fun Day" for Kids All Ages.
Play, make crafts, and entertain teen guests from
Action Ministries at Grace UMC.

Food Box Packing Age 8+.
Do assembly line packing of food items for the needy.

Interior and Exterior Painting Age 16+.
Spruce up these agencies with a coat of paint inside or out. Agencies served include:

  • Wellspring Living

Sorting Donated Items Age 12+.
Local agencies receive donations and have a hard time organizing the piles of clothes, boxes of food, or other items in a timely manner. Help get their storage areas in order. Agencies served include:

  • Atlanta Tool Bank
  • Community Assistance Center
  • Foster Care Support
  • MedShare

Activities with the Elderly All Ages.
Join us as we read, do arts and crafts, play bingo and deliver meals to homebound and retirement home residents.

Join the youth and Youth Choir as they perform, serve lunches and help seniors with fall cleaning.

Rise Against Hunger Age 4+.
Be a part of the huge assembly line as we package 30,000+ highly nutritious meals for this international relief agency.
TWO PACKING SHIFTS:

11:30-2:30 Grain Management and Take Down

Potato Drop All Ages.
Bag 1000's of sweet potatoes into small bags to be delivered to the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Great for Preschool families!

Blankets for Project Linus Age 10+.
Make no-sew fleece blankets for children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need.

Dresses for Zambia Age 8+.
Sew pillow case dresses for orphans. Must know how to sew and bring sewing machine.

Knit In
Knit Mommy Love squares for NICU babies at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. All ages but must know how to knit.

Rice Bags for Holiday Festival Age 8+.
Join those who are recycling rice bags from Rise Against Hunger to make into shopping bags for those attending the Holiday Festival. Sewing skills preferred and sewing machines needed.

Sole Hope Ages 8+.
Make shoes for children in Africa out of old jeans.

Homeless Mats All Ages.
Weave shopping bags into mats for the homeless to sleep on.

UMCOR Flood Buckets All Ages.
Assemble items for to share with flood vicitims.

Breakfast Crew-Cooking/Serving/Cleanup Age 16+.
Assist with cooking and serving food in Fellowship Hall for the great breakfast. Arrive around 6 a.m.

Registration Table Age 18+.
Greet volunteers and point out room locations.
7:00-9:00 a.m.

Care Creations
Assist with recycling at DUMC.

Clean Up
Move tables, chairs, reset church for worship on Sunday. 1:00—3:30 p.m.

Hurricane Harvey Flood Bucket Donations

DUMC is accepting donations to assemble flood buckets during GDOS. Please leave items in the bin near the nursery now through September 29.

  • 5-Gallon bucket with resealable lid
  • Liquid laundry detergent - 50-oz. or 25-oz. bottle(s) only
  • Liquid household cleaner - 12‐ 16 oz. liquid cleaner that can be mixed with water
  • Dish soap - 16-28 oz. bottle, any brand
  • Clothespins
  • Clothesline - 100-ft. or 50-ft. lines - Cotton or plastic
  • Sponges - No cellulose sponges due to mold issues
  • Heavy-duty trash bags - 33-45 gallon sizes
  • Cleaning wipes - Handi-wipes or reusable wipes - No terry cleaning towels
  • Can air freshener - Aerosol or pump
  • Insect repellent spray 6 - 14 oz. aerosol or spray pump with protective cover
  • Kitchen dishwashing gloves - Should be durable enough for multiple uses
  • Pair work gloves - All Cotton - All Leather - Cotton with Leather Palm
  • Scouring pads - No stainless steel, Brillo or SOS pads (nothing with soap built in)
  • Scrub brush - Plastic or wood handle
  • Dust masks
