Habifacts

Habifactspic1For 30 years, Atlanta Habitat has served qualified, working families, building primarily in the city of Atlanta and Fulton County. Now we have become one of the largest of 1,500 affiliates of Habitat for Humanity in the United States since our founding in 1983.

Building Houses

  • Atlanta Habitat has built nearly 1,300 homes, housing close to 5,000 family members.
  • Atlanta Habitat homes are constructed using green building standards, producing energy-efficient homes that protect the environment and reduce utility bills.
  • House sponsors help cover construction costs by providing financial and volunteer support, which helps save $35,000–$40,000 on each house.

Strengthening Families

  • Families qualify to purchase Atlanta Habitat homes by meeting stringent requirements regarding steady income, having good credit, and being first-time homebuyers.
  • Homebuyers must invest 250 sweat-equity hours, helping to build their own home and other homes or working in our offices, warehouse, or ReStore.
  • Atlanta Habitat families are required to take at least 12 education classes focused on financial literacy and home maintenance.
  • Qualified families pay for their homes through a 30-year, no-interest mortgage.

HabifactsNewpic2Changing Communities

  • Atlanta Habitat homeowners have a direct impact on their community by participating in civic organizations and proudly maintaining their homes.
  • Local neighborhoods and the city at large benefi t from the involvement of economically empowered, tax-paying Atlanta Habitat homeowners.

ReStore

  • Since 2001, our retail outlet store has redirected over 7,000 tons of materials from landfills.
  • The ReStore is open to the public and sells new and gently used items at 50% or more off retail prices.
  • All net profi ts from ReStore sales are directed back to our affordable home-building mission and serving families.
