Overview


Dunwoody United Methodist Church's Great Day of Service is a family-friendly event that organizes 600 volunteers in 20 different service projects. Most projects are onsite at Dunwoody UMC, and some are within the surrounding community.

There is a place for YOU at Great Day of Service. Together, we have the opportunity to truly make a difference!

Please read the project descriptions below, and click the registration button to sign up. If your family plans to volunteer for multiple projects, please register for each project separately. Please contact chris.mixer@dunwoodyumc.org with any questions.

Projects


On-Site Projects

Be our guest for breakfast at DUMC, then stay at the church to work on these projects!

Rise Against Hunger "Mini Foodstock" (Age 4+)

Be a part of the huge assembly line as we package thousands of highly nutritious meals for this international relief agency.

Potato Drop (All ages)

Bag thousands of sweet potatoes into small bags to be delivered to the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Great project for preschool families!

CAC Food Packaging (Age 4+)

Help prepare food kits for the Sandy Springs Community Assistance Center.

Care Packages for the Troops (Age 4+)

Create care kits and letters of appreciation for active military.

Cookies & Cards for First Responders (Age 4+)

Bake cookies and prepare appreciation cards for our local first responders.

DUMC Church Grounds Cleanup (Age 8+)

Work to beautify our church grounds. You can expect to trim hedges, plant trees, rake leaves, pull weeds and lay pine straw.

Build a “Little Free Library” (Ages 8+)

Help build and paint a tiny wood library to be donated to a local neighborhood.

No-sew Blankets (Age 10+)

Helping families in need by making no-sew fleece blankets for Project Linus and Wellspring Living.

Dresses for Orphans in Africa (Age 10+)

Sew pillowcase dresses for orphans in Africa. Must know how to sew and bring sewing machine.

Knit In (All ages)

Knit “Mommy Love” squares for NICU babies at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Must know how to knit.

Sole Hope (Ages 8+)

Make shoes for children in Africa out of old jeans.

Homeless Hygiene Kits (Age 4+)

Prepare and donate hygiene kits to Malachi’s Storehouse and Covenant House to help the homeless.

Host a "Fun Day" for Kids (Age 12+)

Play, make crafts, and entertain kids from an Action Ministries program.

Youth Group Project (middle school + high school)

Various service projects at Huntcliff Assisted Living including entertaining and interacting with the senior residents.

Breakfast Crew - Cooking/Serving/Cleanup (Age 16+)

Assist with cooking and serving food in Fellowship Hall for the breakfast. Arrive at 6:00 a.m.

Registration Table (Age 18+)

Greet volunteers and point out room locations. 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.

Clean Up (Age 18+)

Move tables, chairs, reset the church for worship on Sunday. 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.


Off-Site Projects

Be our guest for breakfast at DUMC, then depart to serve in the Dunwoody, Sandy Springs and Atlanta communities!

Habitat for Humanity - Brush with Kindness (Age 16+)

Light construction. Ending time may extend past 1:00 p.m.

Wellspring Living (Age 16+)

Home repair.

Wesley Woods (Age 12+)

Landscaping and building a wooden trellis for senior resident garden.

Thrift Store Assistance (Age 10+)

Help homeless single mothers by assisting in The Drake House’s thrift store. From 10:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.

5K Race Event Management (Age 16+)

Help manage Hightower Elementary fundraising 5K race. May start before breakfast.
