VBS Volunteer Needs

Below you will see a list of the volunteer opportunities we have at VBS this year.  Please read through them and then click the link at the bottom to register.

 

Egypt: Joseph’s Journey

Design Team Volunteers: help to design, organize and coordinate specific areas of VBS

(2) Volunteer Coordinators- organize and coordinate volunteers

(1) Snack Coordinator- organize and coordinate snacks for children and volunteers

(1) Mission Coordinator- plan, organize and coordinate mission offering and focused activities highlighting the mission

(2) Marketplace Coordinators- organize and coordinate activities in the marketplace

(6) Worship Space Design Team- design, create and install worship space

 

Pre and Post-VBS Volunteers: help with important hands-on duties

(5) Registration team- put together packets for pre-VBS mailing to be done mid to late May; assist with late registration as needed

(10) Set-up volunteers- help with miscellaneous jobs on Saturday or Sunday before VBS

(10) Break-down volunteers- help with miscellaneous jobs on Friday afternoon immediately following VBS

 

VBS Week Volunteers: help with VBS the week of June 14-18

(20) Storytellers- work with coordinator to dramatically tell Bible stories during on particular days

(40) Classroom Guides- take responsibility for a class of 14-18 children (depending on the age) from 9am-12noon each day, guiding them from one activity to another; work with a partner guide and youth volunteer

(10) Craft leaders- work in craft room helping children with pre-determined craft projects

(2) Assembly Cast- help with 10 minute presentation each day in assembly

(12) Snack Team- bring snacks or snack supplies for children or volunteers (ideal for working parents who cannot volunteer for something else)

 

Marketplace Volunteers:

(1) Baker (1) Weaver (1) Brick maker (1) Carpenter (5) Floaters

 

GOD SQUAD VOLUNTEERS

(2) Coordinators- work with Associate Director of Ministries with Children to design, organize and coordinate GOD SQUAD VBS

(24) Group Leaders- take responsibility for a class of 10-12 preteens, supervising them as they travel to mission sites or work on-site projects; work with a partner group leader and/or youth volunteer

 

Youth Volunteers

Must be at least 12 years old to volunteer

For rising 4th, 5th and 6th graders.

When:             July 6-9, 2010

What:              A four day, three night camp sponsored by the Children and Leisure Ministries of Dunwoody UMC

Where:            Enota Retreat Center, Hiawassee, Georgia

How much:      $230.00 and includes lodging, meals, transportation, programs and crafts

Why:                So preteens can--

  • Understand our responsibility as Christians to care for creation
  • Find and worship God in our natural world
  • Connect to nature
  • Enjoy the outdoors

Journey of Faith

SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR CHILDREN IN K-3RD GRADE

 

Meets at the 9:00 and 10:30am in the Chapel. Age level classes rotate to a different station (classroom) each week. A schedule of stations is posted in the bulletin and on magnetic boards located on the first floor near the Noah’s Corner reception desk and on the second floor outside Room 250. There are 10 stations in the rotation, however, they vary with individual units.

Club 45

What is it and why do we have it? Club 45 is a new ministry for preteens in 4th and 5th grades. It is designed to meet the changing needs of this group of youth who often hunger for something different from younger children, but they are not developmentally ready for Youth Ministries. Club 45 helps to bridge the gap that preteens feel as they transition from their elementary to teenage years, by using a format similar to youth programs, but with subject matter and activities that address their age appropriate needs and issues. In order to best meet those needs, Club 45 is designed as a holistic ministry, including Sunday school, Preteen Youth Fellowship and Special Events, providing youth a place to experience their faith and their church community in a fuller, deeper and more meaningful way.

Wednesdays Worship and Praise

Wednesdays Worship and Praise is a new program for children on Wednesday afternoons.  WWP is a music and arts appreciation based on Psalm 150, one of many psalms and songs that tell us that everything that breathes praises God!  This new program, designed to enhance the children’s music program already in place at DUMC and to provide activities for siblings and friends of choir participants, will be held in short 3-6 week sessions.

4:30 - 5:30 p.m.
(Children in Choirs may come and go as needed)

Children's Ministry Links

Sunday Mornings

At either 9 a.m. or 10:30 a.m., the children will enjoy Sunday School. They will spend time worshiping God with music, puppetry, making crafts, drama, and scripture reading.

 

  • Preschool Age Groups (two years old through old fives)
  • Elementary kids (kindergarten through second grade)
  • Older Elementary kids (third through fifth grade)

Our Mission is to grow our youngest Dunwoody UMC members into Disciples of Christ through study, programming, and activities. We want to foster Christian friendships between the children and provide an environment for spiritual growth in Christ. Dunwoody UMC children's ministry partners with parents in establishing a conviction in the children to ask Christ into their lives, and enter into a journey of knowing Jesus.
